Nutley Detective Sgt. Michael Padilla was recently named Administrator of the Year for the New Jersey program Law Enforcement Against Drugs.
The organization also surprised Paramus Detective Sgt. James Teehan and Medford Lakes Superintendent Anthony Dent as Instructor of the Year and Educator of the Year, respectively, in February during the 21st Annual Law Enforcement Prevention Conference in Atlantic City, according to Nicholas R. DeMauro, CEO and executive director of Allentown-based LEAD.
LEAD, founded in 2015, has become popular among New Jersey police departments, where Drug Abuse Resistance Education, or DARE, had dominated.
The organization claims to be the largest, school-based, law enforcement, drug prevention program in New Jersey. Its goals are to stop drug abuse, deter drug-related crimes, stop bullying and violence, and promote law enforcement.
